Currency

The only accepted form of cash payment is the national currency, the Armenian dram. There are exchange offices all over the city. Exchange points do not impose additional fees. The exchange rate may differ from place to place, but not by much, depending on the bank they are affiliated with. You can check out the official daily exchange rate set by the Central Bank of Armenia at www.cba.am.

There are six denominations of paper money: 1000, 5000, 10000, 20000 drams etc. There are six denominations of coins: 10, 20, 100, 200 and 500 drams.

Average Prices

A cup of Eastern coffee at a Yerevan café or restaurant will cost you 400-800 drams. A set of Armenian sweets and dried fruits costs 3000-4000 drams at the market. A kilo of lavash (Armenian flatbread) is 500-600 drams.

You can buy Armenian beer from shops at 300-500 drams per bottle.

A bottle of mineral water is 150 drams.

Ice cream is 100-150 drams.

At the Vernissage: A hat with Armenian ornaments should cost about 4000 drams; a carpet bag will be at least 5000 drams.

Taxis charge a minimum fee of 600 drams. 100 drams/km is the standard rate.
