Winter Holidays (Christmas 🎄 2019)

8 Days, 7 Nights in Yerevan

Overview

Overview

Celebrate Christmas 🎄 and New Year 2019 in Armenia. Armenia is the first nation that converted to Christianity, as a matter of fact, the taste of Christmas 🎄  has always been authentic here. Armenia is a mountainous country and during the winter season, several most-attractive sights will be isolated.  To help you see the best sights we have included several excursions in the price of your holiday. All the excursions are possible to visit by usual transport means.

We also offer some optional excursions, visits and experiences that are at extra cost but will enhance your holiday enjoyment.

What to Expect

Day 1

  • Arrival in Yerevan, transfer to the hotel

Day 2

  • City tour around Yerevan

  • Visiting Mother Armenia a panoramic view of Yerevan

  • Visiting Armenian Genocide Memorial

  • Street tour including Republic Square, Yerevan State University, Victory Bridge, Kiev Bridge, Parliament, Palace of President

  • Visiting Matenadaran museum

  • Visiting the State History of Armenia museum

  • Lunch in a traditional Armenian restaurant

  • Visiting Brandy wine factory with the opportunity of tasing several kinds of wine

Day 3

  • Explore the Garni temple, a stunning temple that looms over mountain gorges. A blend of Greco-Roman and Armenian architectural styles, this unique example of pagan culture is the only surviving of its kind in the country.

  • Visit the Geghard Monastery, an unsurpassed masterpiece of 13th-century. This UNESCO-listed complex of churches is partially carved from a mountainside, with cliffs surrounding the buildings.

  • Lunch in the traditional Armenian restaurant in the vicinity of Geghard Monastery

  • Return to Yerevan

Day 4

  •  Visit Khor Virap Monastery, the famous pilgrimage site with an iconic location at the foot of Mt Ararat. You’ll see plenty of tempting pictures of the place on postcards and souvenir books long before you get there.

  • Visit Areni; Few grape varieties can thrive in Armenia's climatic extrems, but the Areni grape is an exception to the rule. Most of the country's vineyards are on the Ararat Plain, but the valleys from the village of Areni up to Yeghegndzor comprise a quality wine-growing region.

  • Visit Hin Areni Wine Factory; Hin Areni is a professional outfit that produces a quaffable red using Areni grapes and a dry white using voskehat (golden seed) grapes, both varieties are grown in nearby vineyards. The tasting includes four different wines and vintages; bottles can be purchased in the tasting room.

  • Visit Noravank ; Founded by Bishop Hovhannes in 1105 and sensitively renovated in the 1990s, Noravank (New Monastery) is one of the most spectacular sites in Armenia and should be included on every visitor's itinerary.

Day 5

  • Visit Tsaghkadzor. Back when Armenia was part of the USSR, Soviet athletes used to come to this tiny village to train for the Winter Olympics and other sports competitions. The ski centre is still here and, if you happen to be in Armenia in winter, Tsaghkadzor (Gorge of Flowers) makes an excellent weekend getaway.

  • Visit Sevan Lake. Perched at 1900m above sea level, the great blue eye of Sevana Lich (Lake Sevan) covers 940 sq km and is 80km long by 30km at its widest. The lake is perfect for escaping Yerevan’s summer heat. Its colours and shades change with the weather and by its own mysterious processes, from a dazzling azure to dark blue and a thousand shades in between. The freshwater lake supports a healthy fish population, including theishkhan (prince trout), named for a row of spots like a crown on its head.

  • Lunch in traditional restaurant in Sevan.

Day 6

  • Visit Holy Echmiadzin; Echmiadzin (sometimes spelt Ejmiatsin or Etchmiadzin) was the capital of Armenia from 180 to 340, when Christianity was first adopted by the Armenian nation.

  • Visit Zvartnots Cathedral, Built from 641 to 661, the ruins of the church of Surp Grigor Lusavorich (St Gregory the Illuminator) at Zvartnots are different to every other set of ruins in Armenia.

Day 7

  • Enjoy your holiday in Yerevan and explore the city by yourself. There are many secret places to discover.

Day 8

  • Transfer from the hotel to the airport, departure
